Is Squarespace Email Campaigns Enough? An Honest Review

When I launched my web design business, I had one goal. I wanted to keep things simple. My corporate days were full of a ton of tech and software. I’ve used Mailchimp, HubSpot, and the big players. They are powerful but they are also a lot. I already had my website on Squarespace. I was using Acuity for my scheduling. I decided to bring my email under the same umbrella. Here is what I’ve learned after two years.

The Good: Why Simplicity Wins

The biggest win for Squarespace Email is the lack of friction. You do not need a new login. You do not need to learn a new interface. If you can edit your website, you can send an email. The branding import is a life saver. It pulls your logo and colours automatically. Your emails actually look like your website (if that’s what you want). You can pull blog posts directly into a campaign. This saves me hours of manual copying. For an expert in their second act, this is huge.

The Cost: Competitive and Predictable

Pricing is another reason I stay. Squarespace is very competitive. Other platforms often hike their prices as your list grows. They hide basic features behind expensive tiers. With Squarespace, the pricing is clear and tiered. It is often much cheaper than Mailchimp for the same list size. For a small business, every monthly subscription adds up. Keeping costs low while looking professional is a win.

The Gaps: What I Miss from Other Tools

The simplicity comes at a cost. The analytics are very basic and harder to view. You can see who opened the email (up to a limit). You can see who clicked a link. But you cannot see the deep why behind the data. The unsubscribed list is also a pain. It is hard to see exactly who left and when. In Mailchimp, you get clear alerts. In Squarespace, you have to go digging. The automations are also limited. You can send a welcome sequence. It is a straight line, not a web.

The Fact Check: What it can and cannot do

I want to be clear about the technical limits. Squarespace is not a powerhouse tool.

It can:

  • Automate emails based on sign ups or purchases.

  • Create beautiful layouts easily.

  • Keep things manageable when you don’t have a large budget and a large audience.

It cannot:

  • Create segments.

  • Provide detailed analytics.

  • Resend to those who haven’t opened the email you sent.

  • Send automated A/B tests for subject lines.

The Verdict: Who should use it?

If you want to grow a list to 10,000 people, skip it. If you need deep data to drive a sales funnel, use ConvertKit. But if you are an expert service provider already using Squarespace for your business website, it is solid. Most of my clients send a few high value emails a month. They want their brand to look polished. They want to spend ten minutes on a newsletter. For ease of use and price, it is a great tool.

The Conclusion

Tech should serve your business. It should not be another chore on your list. I choose simplicity because it allows me to stay intentional. I would rather have a simple list I actually use. A complex tool you are too overwhelmed to open is useless. If you are in your second act, prioritize your peace. Focus on the connection, not just the clicks. The right people will stay for your brain, not your fancy tracking.
